Life Lessons From My Vacation

Comments (0)

I am on a two week vacation in Aruba and it has been absolutely awesome to have nothing to do but sit on the beach and read books. I have been doing more than that though. I have been thinking - I know, always a dangerous thing to do. I have also been watching people and nature and it has been enlightening. The locals call this "One Happy Island" and it surely is. Here are some of the life lessons I have picked up as I have been observing my surroundings this vacation.

The many iguanas have taught me to be persistent - you will get what you want. Mother nature gives the best fireworks shows in town. Even rainy days at the beach are awesome. Soft beach breezes calm my soul. There is nothing as relaxing as the sound of waves lapping the shore. Happiness is kids playing in the water. Happiness is me playing in the water. Share your food with others. They will appreciate it - iguanas again. Early morning is sublime. Sleeping in is delicious. Eating outside in the ocean air is lovely. You can learn a lot from the locals. Island life and island time are where it is at. You could have a whole wardrobe of bathing suits. Children in hotel rooms are not always a good thing. Don't judge a book by its cover - that goes for people too. Work and vacation can mix well together just know which is which. It always takes a few days to unwind. Let go and live. Local restaurants are usually the best. You can learn a lot about a culture in the grocery store. The variety around you is what makes it interesting. Happiness comes from your heart. Friendly comes in all languages. Flamingos have their knees on backwards. Tourist traps are tourist traps. The locals know best. Hide-a-beds are the pits - need I say more? You always pack the wrong stuff. Local arts and crafts have their own beauty. Warm hearts are the same in any language. Driving all the way around an island is a great Sunday afternoon adventure. Sunsets at the beach are glorious. Local fruit tastes like nothing else. Local fish tastes like nothing else. Try it, you may like it. There are never enough towels at the beach. Appreciation is a universal language. You can't bottle the weather and take it home. Vacation is never long enough.
